Your
boots are more important than skis.
The fit and comfort of your ski-boots is paramount and
directed connected to your success on the slopes. Too many people
either ignore the advise of experts or listen to the wrong advise
from a so-called expert. We have all heard it before from the
self-acclaimed expert that your ski-boots need to fit you really
tightly, almost to the point of pain. Well that is great if
you are about to run the Giant Slalom at the World Championships.
But for most, recreational skiing is what they are about. Comfort
with appropriate support is the aim. Now let us not go the route
of the ignoring ones, comfort does not mean that it feels just
like your household slippers or those Crocs that you love. Comfort
in a ski-boot is still snug but not to the point of cutting
off circulation. You want to be able to ski all day and still
not have pain. Comfort also means that you have adequate support
so that you are able to make that ski flex. Comfort also means
that your feet, your stance and your boots are brought into
harmony with the skiing surface. This is most often achieved
with a professional boot fitter.
This is
the point where we strongly recommend that boots be purchased
and corrected fitted by someone that knows what they are doing.
This is not the guy or gal who has been skiing for 10 years
and is convinced that they can help you with this because they
are also the ones that think that they can teach you to ski.
The best way to find the best place to purchase yourself a pair
of ski-boots is to look for a retail establishment that is staffed
by experienced, professional boot-fitters and which has a solid
reputation and best of all recommendation. Be prepared to spend
a goodly amount of money on your ski-boot purchase. If you buy
right, you will have them for several seasons and never want
to get rid of them. If you don't buy right, you will end buying
year after year until you eventually listen to what we have
said here. Think of your boots as an extension of your body
and your skis as little more than an extension of the sole of
the boots. The skis become almost unimportant and the boots
are absolutely paramount. If they don't feel like they are part
of you, almost to the point that you forget that you are wearing
them, then they are wrong for you or need attention.
